Gertrude Frances Hill was born October 26, 1909 in Phoenix, Arizona. She earned degrees in Anthropology from the University of Arizona, and a B.S. in Library Science from the University of Denver. After working in various libraries in Texas, Arizona, and California, Hill assumed the position of Assistant Librarian for the Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe in 1951, serving as Chief Librarian from 1952-1960.
